What is a Kaftan?

The word kaftan for some people may still be foreign, even though this dress model is very often we use or we encounter.

The Kaftan dress model is one type of clothing that has a loose and long cut.

This dress model is often referred to as a bat shirt. Its use varies, from being worn as official clothes or negligee for mothers at home, to being used by artists and socialites at formal events.

The History of the Use of the Kaftan
Kaftan comes from the Persian word ان or aftān. It was originally used as a coat by men. The shape of a long robe that reaches to the ankles. The material can be wool, cashmere, silk, or cotton.

This kaftan was originally worn by men in the days of the ancient Persian empire. As time goes by, Kaftan is widely used by women. Popular first in Eastern countries such as Morocco.

Then what's the difference with the gamis?
Kaftan is almost similar to a loose-fitting robe, but Kaftan does not have sleeves and is box-shaped.

Making a kaftan does seem easy because it is only sewn on the right and left by leaving the edge of the fabric.

Initially, the clothes worn by all groups were plain without decorations and knick-knacks. But now hijab fashion is modified with various innovations. In fact, it is not only enjoyed by Muslim women, but also non-Muslims.

Comfortable to wear
Due to its loose shape, the caftan is very comfortable to wear. Moreover, Kaftan was originally popular in Indonesia in the form of a negligee or house dress. Mothers like me certainly understand how comfortable and comfortable it is to wear this dress model.
